Appeared first as Chasmocephalus brevior, name only with locality, in Eigenmann 1910:384 [ref. 1224]. •Valid as Heptapterus brevior (Eigenmann 1912) -- (Mees 1986:321 [ref. 5693], Burgess 1989:276 [ref. 12860], Le Bail et al. 2000:122 [ref. 24549]). •Valid as Chasmocranus brevior Eigenmann 1912 -- (Bockmann & Guazzelli in Reis et al. 2003:412 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:182 [ref. 29155], Brosse et al. 2019:134 [ref. 38320], Borstein et al. 2022:18 [ref. 39507]). Current status: Valid as Chasmocranus brevior Eigenmann 1912. Heptapteridae: Heptapterinae. Distribution: South America: Mana and Marowijne/Maroni River basins and Potaro River (Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana). Habitat: freshwater.
