Holotype or Bleeker specimens: BMNH 1866.5.2.36 (1). •Valid as Cypselurus katoptron (Bleeker 1865) -- (Yoshino in Masuda et al. 1984:81 [ref. 6441], Parin 1996:302 [ref. 23179], Chen et al. 1997:27 [ref. 26476] dated 1855). •Valid as Cheilopogon katoptron (Bleeker 1865) -- (Parin 1999:2171 [ref. 24786], Parin in Randall & Lim 2000:600 [ref. 25122], Hutchins 2001:24 [ref. 25847], Mundy 2005:285 [ref. 28379], Paxton et al. 2006:726 [ref. 29073], Motomura et al. 2017:65 [ref. 35490]). Current status: Valid as Cheilopogon katoptron (Bleeker 1865). Exocoetidae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Indonesia to Philippines, northern Australia. Habitat: marine.
