Austr.:121, Pl. 39. •Synonym of Chironemus marmoratus Günther 1860 -- (Hoese & Bray 2006:1351 [ref. 29000], Meléndez & Dyer 2010:690 [ref. 32114]). Current status: Synonym of Chironemus marmoratus Günther 1860. Chironemidae. Habitat: marine.

fergussoni, Haplodactylus Hector [J.] 1875:243 [Transactions and Proceedings of the New Zealand Institute v. 7 (art. 34); ref. 18269] Kawakawa Bay, East Cape, New Zealand. Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. Original genus should have been Aplodactylus. •Synonym of Chironemus marmoratus Günther 1860 -- (Meléndez & Dyer 2010:683, 690 [ref. 32114]). Current status: Synonym of Chironemus marmoratus Günther 1860. Chironemidae. Habitat: marine.

marmoratus, Chironemus Günther [A.] 1860:76 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 2; ref. 1963] Swan River and Erub [= Darnley] Island, western coast of Australia [in error. outside of current range]. Syntypes: BMNH 1847.6.17.12 (right half skin), ? BMNH 1847.6.17.11 (skin). Locality evidently in error. •Valid as Chironemus marmoratus Günther 1860 -- (Paulin et al. 1989:200 [ref. 24556], Paulin & Roberts 1992:113 [ref. 24625], Kuiter 1993:255 [ref. 23929], Francis 1993:164 [ref. 25479], Gomon et al. 1994:640 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:246 [ref. 25488], Johnson 1999:742 [ref. 25471], Burridge & White 2000:438 [ref. 24553], Gomon 2008:622 [ref. 30616], Meléndez & Dyer 2010:683, 690 [ref. 32114], Stewart 2015:1342 [ref. 34196]). Current status: Valid as Chironemus marmoratus Günther 1860. Chironemidae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: Australia (Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania) and New Zealand.
