Current status: Valid as Chromis hypsilepis (Günther 1867). Pomacentridae: Chrominae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: southeastern Australia, Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Islands, northern New Zealand. Habitat: marine.

Syntypes: SMNS 2556 (2), 2630 (1), 2690 (7). Type catalog: Fricke 1995:18 [ref. 28100], Fricke 2005:54-55 [ref. 29864]. Based on Heliastes hypsilepis of Klunzinger 1879:398 [ref. 2624]. •Valid as Chromis klunzingeri Whitley 1929 -- (Allen 1991:239 [ref. 19344], Gomon et al. 1994:669 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:256 [ref. 25488], Hutchins 2001:266 [ref. 25841], Hutchins 2001:37 [ref. 25847], Allen 2001:3343 [ref. 26132], Allen et al. 2006:1449 [ref. 29090], Allen & Gomon 2008:635 [ref. 30653], Hoschke et al. 2019:157 [ref. 36626], Parenti 2021:53 [ref. 38418]). Current status: Valid as Chromis klunzingeri Whitley 1929. Pomacentridae: Chrominae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean: Recherche Archipelago north to Houtman Abrolhos Islands (southern Western Australia). Habitat: marine.
