Originally nigro-maculata, correction mandatory. Current status: Valid as Cichla nigromaculata Jardine & Schomburgk 1843. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: upper Orinoco and Casiquiare tributaries and the middle Negro River (Brazil and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
