Regarded as a replacement name for (and objective synonym of) Cirrhites fasciatus Bennett 1828, not of Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829; but apparently Bennett's description was published before that of Cuvier; Cuvier's name should have been replaced (and was later replaced by Amblycirrhitus indicus Fowler 1938). •Synonym of Cirrhitops fasciatus (Bennett 1828) -- (Randall 1963:420 [ref. 3599], Fricke 1999:352 [ref. 24106], Mundy 2005:415 [ref. 28379], Randall 2007:202 [ref. 30952], Randall & Schultz 2008:15 [ref. 29982]). Replacement Name. Current status: Synonym of Cirrhitops fasciatus (Bennett 1828). Cirrhitidae. Habitat: marine.

Cirrhites cinctus Günther 1860 is an unneeded replacement name, Cuvier's 1829 cinctus was published after Bennett's name. •Valid as Cirrhitops fasciatus (Bennett 1828) -- (Randall 1963:420 [ref. 3599], Fricke 1999:352 [ref. 24106], Mundy 2005:415 [ref. 28379], Randall & Schultz 2008:15 [ref. 29982], Randall 2007:202 [ref. 30952], Fricke et al. 2009:76 [ref. 30213], Caratini & Soriano 2011:88 [ref. 39915], Gaither & Randall 2012:223 [ref. 32260], Dalleau-Coudert et al. 2019:130 [ref. 40104]).
