Jordan 1919:362 [ref. 4904] regarded as introduced in error, probably overlooked in proofreading. Whitehead et al. 1966:70 [ref. 6860] treat as a forgotten name and place in synonymy of Escualosa Whitley 1940. Correctly dates to 1870, Pl. 264 in part 22 [ref. 428], with corresponding legend page published in 1875; in corresponding text page 101 published in 1872, Bleeker used the name Clupeoides. Leptogaster is also objectively invalid, being preoccupied in insects according to Whitley 1970:242 [ref. 6601]. •Synonym of Escualosa Whitley 1940 -- (Whitehead 1985:118 [ref. 5141], Kottelat 2013:60 [ref. 32989]).
