Type not by monotypy, second species included on p. 406 [earliest type designation not researched]. Usually spelled Choetomus (originally with a diphthong), but McClellan's derivation is clearly based on chaeto- a lock of hair. •Synonym of Coilia Gray 1830 -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:460 [ref. 5725] as Choetomus, Kottelat 2013:52 [ref. 32989]). 1°Homonym.
