Distribution: South America: lower Amazon River and coastal Guianas to mouth of Orinoco River: Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, Venezuela, and Trinidad and Tobago (introduced). Habitat: freshwater.

Current status: Synonym of Copella arnoldi (Regan 1912). Lebiasinidae: Pyrrhulininae. Habitat: freshwater.
