Lectotype: MCZ 28591. Paralectotypes: MCZ 61093 (1), 63331 (1); as as separate variety: MCZ 28592 (5, poor condition), USNM 120423 [not 12043] [ex MCZ 28592] (1). Original genus should have been Macrourus. Lectotype selected by Iwamoto & Sazonov 1988:62 [ref. 6228]. •Valid as Coryphaenoides capito (Garman 1899) -- (Iwamoto & Sazonov 1988:62 [ref. 6228], Iwamoto & Schneider in Fischer et al. 1995:1262 [ref. 22830], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:236 [ref. 24555], Love et al. 2005:53 [ref. 37547], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:196 [ref. 28944], Robertson et al. 2017:54 [ref. 35676], Cruz-Azevedo & Aguirre-Villaseñor 2020:4 [ref. 37772], Love et al. 2021:76 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:101 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Coryphaenoides capito (Garman 1899). Macrouridae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern tip of Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to northern Peru, including Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): MCZ 28589. Original genus should have been Macrourus. •Questionably a synonym of Coryphaenoides capito (Garman 1899) -- (Iwamoto & Sazonov 1988:62 [ref. 6228]). •See Bussing & López S. 1994:70 [ref. 23101]. Current status: Uncertain as Coryphaenoides capito (Garman 1899). Macrouridae. Habitat: marine.

vagrans, Macrurus capito var. Garman [S.] 1899:201 [Memoirs of the Museum of Comparative Zoology v. 24; ref. 1540] Syntypes: MCZ 28592 (5, poor condition), USNM 12043 (1). Original genus should have been Macrourus. Appeared as, "The specimens from station 3417 are hardly identical in variety with those from station 3384; they are closely allied but differ in that the former (M. vagrans) is darker in color, and has less of the silver tint." •Synonym of Coryphaenoides capito (Garman 1899) -- (Iwamoto & Sazonov 1988:62 [ref. 6228]). Current status: Synonym of Coryphaenoides capito (Garman 1899). Macrouridae. Habitat: marine.
