Holotype: largest specimen. Paratypes: (14). •Synonym of Chalinura mediterranea Giglioli 1893 -- (Marshall 1973:298 [ref. 7194], Geistdoerfer in Whitehead et al. 1986:653 [ref. 13676], Geistdoerfer 1990:547 [ref. 16195]). •Synonym of Coryphaenoides mediterraneus (Giglioli 1893). Current status: Synonym of Coryphaenoides mediterraneus (Giglioli 1893). Macrouridae. Habitat: marine.

Lectotype: BMNH 1887.12.7.113. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1887.12.7.114-117 (4). On p. 10 of separate. See also Günther 1887:146, Pl. 34 (fig. A) [ref. 2013]. Original series was apparently 5 specimens of which the presumed holotype and one paratype were found; the paratype is not this species but is Coryphaenoides carapinus according to Iwamoto & Shcherbachev 1991:219 [ref. 19100]. Lectotype selected as "holotype" by Iwamoto & Shcherbachev 1991 [ref. 19100]. •Valid as Coryphaenoides murrayi Günther 1878 -- (Paulin et al. 1989:130 [ref. 24556], Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:201 [ref. 18936], Iwamoto & Shcherbachev 1991:217 [ref. 19100], Miller 1993:575 [ref. 21297], Shcherbachev & Iwamoto 1995:287 [ref. 22071], Iwamoto & Graham 2001:466 [ref. 25637], Iwamoto et al. 2004:197 [ref. 27643], Duhamel et al. 2005:254 [ref. 32059] with question, Bray et al. 2006:592 [ref. 29065], Iwamoto & McMillan 2008:334 [ref. 30636], McMillan & Iwamoto 2015:797 [ref. 34263], Nakayama 2020:177 [ref. 37888]).
