Holotype (unique): ?USNM 3251 (not found in 1980). •Synonym of Cottus bairdii Girard 1850 -- (Baxter & Stone 1995:221 [ref. 23374]). •Synonym of Cottus bairdii Girard 1850, but a valid subspecies punctulatus (Gill 1861) -- (Scharpf 2008:8 [ref. 30399]). •Valid as Cottus punctulatus (Gill 1861) -- (Young et al. 2022:335 [ref. 39356]). Current status: Valid as Cottus punctulatus (Gill 1861). Cottidae. Distribution: North America: Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico (western U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
