Current status: Valid as Dactyloscopus fallax Dawson 1975. Dactyloscopidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Mexico. Habitat: marine.

Holotype: SIO 70-394. Paratypes: CAS 28730 (3); GCRL 10655-56 (4, 1); LACM 31783-4 (9); SIO 11-392 (68) (ex UCLA W55-156), 70-392 (7), 70-394 (13); UBC 57-152 (1). Plus other material. •Synonym of Dactyloscopus pectoralis Gill 1861, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Allen & Robertson 1994:223 [ref. 22193]). •Valid as Dactyloscopus insulatus Dawson 1975 -- (Patzner et al. 2009:472 [ref. 30396], Hastings & Springer 2009:9 [ref. 31156], Page et al. 2013:167 [ref. 32708], Fourriére et al. 2016:449 [ref. 34668], Del Moral-Flores et al. 2016:610 [ref. 34923]). Current status: Valid as Dactyloscopus insulatus Dawson 1975. Dactyloscopidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Revillagigedo Islands endemic. Habitat: marine.

Neotype: SIO 59-210. Type catalog: Springer & Orrell 1996:15 [ref. 22274]. Appeared first as above (19 Nov.); also in Günther 1861:563 [ref. 1960]. The three syntypic specimens deposited at USNM not found; neotype designated by Dawson 1975:34 [ref. 7121]. •Valid as Dactyloscopus pectoralis Gill 1861 -- (Dawson 1975:32 [ref. 7121], Allen & Robertson 1994:223 [ref. 22193], De La Cruz Agüero et al. 1997:120 [ref. 24545], Thomson et al. 2000:293 [ref. 25640], Nelson et al. 2004:162 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:152 [ref. 37547], Hastings & Springer 2009:7 [ref. 30391], Patzner et al. 2009:472 [ref. 30396], Hastings & Springer 2009:9 [ref. 31156], Page et al. 2013:167 [ref. 32708], Love et al. 2021:195 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Dactyloscopus pectoralis Gill 1861. Dactyloscopidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to northern Peru, including Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
