Current status: Valid as Diaphus malayanus Weber 1913. Myctophidae: Diaphinae. Distribution: Widespread in Indo-West Pacific. Habitat: marine.

meyeri, Diaphus Fowler [H. W.] 1934:314, Fig. 68 [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 85 (for 1933); ref. 1416] West coast of Luzon Island, Philippines, 15°45'54"N, 119°42'45"E, Albatross station D.5437. Holotype: USNM 93152. •Synonym of Diaphus malayanus Weber 1913 -- (Paxton 1979:8 [ref. 6440]). Current status: Synonym of Diaphus malayanus Weber 1913. Myctophidae: Diaphinae. Habitat: marine.

tanakae, Diaphus Gilbert [C. H.] 1913:88 [Memoirs of the Carnegie Museum v. 6 (no. 2); ref. 14956] Off southeastern coast of Kiusiu, 31°10'30"N, 131°58'30"E, Albatross station 4951, depth 300 fathoms. Holotype: USNM 74470. Paratypes: CAS-SU 22439 (1, dessicated), USNM 74652 (2). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:19 [ref. 12291]. The spelling tanakae is acceptable; early workers almost certainly Latinized the name first, and then added an 'e' (Art. 31.1.1) [WNE, 12 Mar. 2012] -- we suggest using tanakae when the species is treated as valid. •Questionably valid as Diaphus tanakae Gilbert 1913 -- (Paxton 1979:9 [ref. 6440]). •Synonym of Diaphus malayanus Weber 1913 -- (Chen 2002:229 [ref. 26587], Mundy 2005:217 [ref. 28379]). Current status: Synonym of Diaphus malayanus Weber 1913. Myctophidae: Diaphinae. Habitat: marine.
