Description of species appeared in Poey 1868:305 [ref. 3505] without a genus as, "Familia.... ? and Genus ...? diapterus Poey.--479." For technical reasons, perhaps the species name should date to Poey in Jordan 1886 when it became a binominal name (and with reference to a previous description); see Appendix A. Name apparently not in current literature; family uncertain. Current status: Uncertain.
