Based on Schlegel Faun. Jap. Pisces, Pl. 73, fig. 3 (= Temminck & Schlegel 1845:Pl. 73 (fig. 3) [ref. 4373]). Because van der Hoeven based his name only on a single, illustrated specimen (from Simabara Bay), the species has one type specimen. There cannot be 5 syntypes of Dictyosoma burgeri as indicated by Yatsu et al. 1978:43-44 [ref. 8858]. See Mecklenburg & Sheiko 2004:20 [ref. 27604] for use of burgeri. •Valid as Dictyosoma burgeri van der Hoeven 1855 -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1975:116 [ref. 7348] as buergeri, Amaoka & Miki in Masuda et al. 1984:303 [ref. 6441], Cheng & Zhou 1997:327 [ref. 26385] dated 1850, Nakabo 2000:1049 [ref. 25182], Shinohara et al. 2000:181 [ref. 25987], Nakabo 2002:1049 [ref. 26193], Choi et al. 2003:377, 642 [ref. 26218], Mecklenburg & Sheiko 2004:20 [ref. 27604], Ji & Kim 2012:55 [ref. 32289], Kwun et al. 2017:142 [ref. 37287], Kim et al. 2020:157 [ref. 39118]). •Synonym of Dictyosoma temminckii Burger 1853 -- (Parin et al. 2014:439 [ref. 33547]). Current status: Synonym of Dictyosoma temminckii Bleeker 1853. Cebidichthyidae. Habitat: marine.

Syntypes: RMNH 1948 (5); plus figured specimen that was destroyed. Based on Temminck & Schlegel 1845:139, Pl. 73 (fig. 3) [ref. 4373]. •Senior synonym of Dictyosoma burgeri van der Hoeven 1855 -- (Mecklenburg & Sheiko 2004:20 [ref. 27604]). •Valid as Dictyosoma temminckii Bleeker 1853 -- (Parin et al. 2014:439 [ref. 33547], Sonoyama et al. 2020:95 [ref. 37637]). Current status: Valid as Dictyosoma temminckii Bleeker 1853. Cebidichthyidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: around Japan from Tsugaru Strait to East China Sea and southern Korean Peninsula; Liaodong Peninsula, Yellow Sea. Habitat: marine.
