Paratypes: (37) CAS-SU 50185 (1); USNM 118535 (18, now 11), 118536 (1), 129817 (1), 144213-16 (1, 1, 9, 1), 155173-77 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2). Appeared as "Diplectrum arcuarium, new subspecies," but the author states, "...Therefore, for nomenclatural purposes, the Gulf population is tentatively treated as though it were a full species." •Synonym of Diplectrum bivittatum (Valenciennes 1828) -- (Bortone 1977:22 [ref. 7064], Bullock & Smith 1991:46 [ref. 36591], Parenti & Randall 2020:114 [ref. 37354]). Current status: Synonym of Diplectrum bivittatum (Valenciennes 1828). Serranidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Caribbean Sea south to Brazil [if valid]. Habitat: marine.
