Lectotype selected by Norman 1934:215 [ref. 6893] as the largest specimen in BMNH 1901.12.31.105-106. One specimen in BMNH 1901.12.31.106 is reidentified as Engyprosopon macrolepis (Regan 1905) by Amaoka et al. 1993:298 [ref. 22091]. •Valid as Engyprosopon filimanus (Regan 1908) -- (Hensley & Randall 1990:679 [ref. 20143], Quéro & Golani 1990:39 [ref. 15759], Hensley & Amaoka 2022:334 [ref. 40220]). Current status: Valid as Engyprosopon filimanus (Regan 1908). Bothidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: Maldives endemic. Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): BMNH 1908.3.23.145. •Valid as Engyprosopon macrolepis (Regan 1908) -- (Hensley & Randall 1990 [ref. 20143], Amaoka et al. 1993:398 [ref. 22091], Anderson et al. 1998:28 [ref. 23611], Amaoka in Randall & Lim 2000:645 [ref. 25122], Hensley & Amaoka 2001:3831 [ref. 26311], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S122 [ref. 27377], Randall 2005:615 [ref. 28239], Allen & Erdmann 2012:1048 [ref. 31980], Fricke 2015:6 [ref. 33807], Fricke et al. 2018:370 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:173 [ref. 36273], Fricke et al. 2019:315 [ref. 36673], Hensley & Amaoka 2022:337 [ref. 40220]). Current status: Valid as Engyprosopon macrolepis (Regan 1908). Bothidae. Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), Gulf of Aden, Comoros, Madagascar and Saint Brandon's Shoals (Cargados Carajos) east to Philippines and New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), south to New Caledonia.
