Type by monotypy. Correct spelling for genus of type species is Tripterygion. According to Rosenblatt 1960:4-5 [ref. 11946], the type species is misidentified and the generic characters do not match Tripterygium carminale Jordan & Gilbert 1882; he suggests making the type species Gillias sexmaculatus Fowler.
