On p. 15 of separate. Earliest type designation not researched. •Synonym of Eptatretus Cloquet 1819. Current status: Synonym of Eptatretus Cloquet 1819. Myxinidae: Eptatretinae.

Eptatretus Cloquet [H.] (ex Duméril) 1819:134 [Dictionnaire des sciences Naturelles; ref. 852] Masc. Homea banksii Fleming 1822. Type by monotypy. Spelled Heptatremus by Swainson 1838:197, 338 [ref. 4302]. According to Wisner & McMillan 1986:240, the type of Lacepède was "apparently a myxinid, but genus and species indeterminate. But see Gill 1901:735 [ref. 9562] who indicates that Cloquet used two sources but essentially made his generic description from an account by Home 1815 [species later named Homea banksii Fleming 1822], and that Cloquet's citation of dombey [as dombeii] was a misidentification. Action by the ICZN is desirable; possibly to designate Homea banksii Fleming 1822 as the type species to continue current usage. Also, although Cloquet gives the author of his Eptatretus as Duméril, Cloquet is the first to Latinize the generic name and make it available, and Cloquet is author of Eptatretus. Heptatretus was authored by Duméril in 1832. Fernholm et al. 2013:5 [ref. 32793] designates Homea banksii Fleming 1822 as the type. •Valid as Eptatretus Cloquet [author sometimes as Duméril] -- (Shimizu in Uyeno et al. 1983:43 [ref. 14275], Hensley 1985 [ref. 6783], Fernholm 1986:35 [ref. 6283], Wisner & McMillan 1988 [ref. 6335], Paxton et al. 1989:25 [ref. 12442], Wisner & McMillan 1990 [ref. 19195], Kuo et al. 1994:127 [ref. 21435], Gomon et al. 1994:85 [ref. 22532], Fernholm 1998:34 [ref. 23976], McMillan 1999:116 [ref. 23612], Mincarone 2000:825 [ref. 25198], Mecklenburg et al. 2002:53 [ref. 25968], Fernholm 2003:354 [ref. 26983], McMillan & Wisner 2004:53 [ref. 27692], Mincarone & Stewart 2006:225 [ref. 28682], Paxton et al. 2006:39 [ref. 28994], Møller & Jones 2007:55 [ref. 29019], Fernholm & Quattrini 2008:126 [ref. 29539], Gomon & Mincarone 2008:27 [ref. 30615], Mincarone & Fernholm 2010:779 [ref. 30926], Fernholm & Mincarone 2010:998 [ref. 30998], Kuo et al. 2010:855 [ref. 31001], Shinohara et al. 2011:38 [ref. 31715], Fernholm et al. 2013:5 [ref. 32793], Mincarone & McCosker 2014:341 [ref. 33284], Polanco Fernandez & Fernholm 2014:530 [ref. 33545], Zintzen et al. 2015:363 [ref. 33803], Zintzen et al. 2015:27 [ref. 34212], Pietsch & Orr 2015:12 [ref. 34694], Mincarone 2017:2 [ref. 35376], Song & Kim 2020:81 [ref. 37441], Song & Kim 2020:1 [ref. 37719], Mincarone et al. 2021:1 [ref. 38120], Augustina et al. 2022:120 [ref. 39374], Fernholm & Mincarone 2023:1 [ref. 40058]).
