Replacement name for Myxodes elegans Cooper 1864, secondarily preoccupied by Clinus elegans Valenciennes 1836. Neotype designation for elegans also serves as the neotype for evides. Eschmeyer et al. 1998 pointed out that the valid name should be evides, but on the basis of Art. 59.3 of the 1999 code, the continued use of elegans is permitted. •Synonym of Gibbonsia elegans (Cooper 1864) -- Hubbs 1952:138 [ref. 2252], Stepien & Rosenblatt 1991:892 [ref. 19864] and Hastings in Fischer et al. 1995:1014 [ref. 22829].
