Lectotype selected by Lucinda 2005:378 [ref. 28403]. •Synonym of Phalloptychus januarius (Hensel 1868) -- (Rosen & Bailey 1963:74 [ref. 7067], Malabarba 1989:161 [ref. 14217]). •Valid as Phalloptychus iheringii (Boulenger 1889) -- (Lucinda in Reis et al. 2003:566 [ref. 27061], Lucinda 2005:377 [ref. 28403], Lucinda & Reis 2005:43 [ref. 29205], Meyer 2015:193 [ref. 34698], Bertaco et al. 2016:423 [ref. 34561], Huber 2019:91 [ref. 36941]). Current status: Valid as Phalloptychus iheringii (Boulenger 1889). Poeciliidae: Poeciliinae. Distribution: Coastal drainages, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul states, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
