Apparently an available, overlooked name until treated by Pequeño & Sáez 2000:32 [ref. 24590] as valid as Girella nigricans, but Philippi's species is secondarily preoccupied in Girella by Camarina nigricans Ayres 1860 (currently recognized as valid as Girella nigricans Ayres). 2°Homonym.
