Two included species, neither technically designated type, but clear from text that genus was intended for habenatus; unfortunately name is apparently unavailable (Art. 13.3). Derivation of name not given; treated as feminine by author. Apparently can date to Zoological Record for 1936:72 where citation to Griffin is provided and a type is designated. •Synonym of Gnathophis Kaup 1859 -- (Blache et al. 1973:242 [ref. 7185], Smith 1989:521 [ref. 13285], Karmovskaya & Paxton 2000:S2 [ref. 25768]).
