Replacement name for Gobius ophicephalus Jenyns 1842 [misspelled by Hoese as ophiocephalus], but still preoccupied by Gobius ophiocephalus Pallas 1811 [regarded as same spelling based on Art. 58 of the Code]. •Valid as Ophiogobius jenynsi Hoese 1976 -- (Pequeño 1989:66 [ref. 14125], Stepien 1990:600 [ref. 19879], Van Tassell 2011:155 [ref. 31732]). Objectively invalid; regarded as preoccupied by Gobius ophiocephalus Pallas 1814 [regarded as same as ophicephalus, Art. 58 of the Code], replaced by and objective synonym of Ophiogobius jenynsi Hoese 1976. •Wrongly treated as valid as Ophiogobius ophicephalus (Jenyns 1842) -- (López et al. 1996:55 [ref. 23681]). 1°Homonym.
