Species that contain: Gymnocephalus and acerina [ 10 ] records acerina, Perca Gmelin [J. F.] (ex Güldenstädt) 1789:1321 [Caroli a Linné ... Systema Naturae per regna tria naturae v. 1 (pt 3); ref. 18139] Kottelat & Freyhof 2009:83-85 [ref. 30320] provide extensive remarks on the use of this name by Güldenstädt. They suggest that Güldenstädt (1775:457, Pl. 11) did not place the taxon in a genus and that acerina was not proposed as a scientific name [if so, it does not need to have been placed in a genus, W. N .E.]. They indicate that the name acerina was made available by Gmelin 1789:1321. They declare tanaicensis as a nomen oblitum, and declare acerina as a nomen protectum. Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:205 [ref. 28183] date acerina to Güldenstädt 1774 [herein 1775] and treat the name as a noun, hence Gymnocpehalus acerina. •Valid as Acerina acerina (Güldenstädt 1775) -- (Berg 1949:1048 [ref. 20662]). •Valid as Gymnocephalus acerina [sometimes as acerinus] (Güldenstädt 1775) -- (Collette & Bănărescu 1977:1453 [ref. 5845], Lelek 1987:280 [ref. 22962], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:749 [ref. 24702], Popova 1998:117 [ref. 23588], Bogutskaya et al. 2001:47 [ref. 26178], Parin 2003:S3 [ref. 28536], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:205 [ref. 28183] dated to 1774, Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:527 [ref. 29996], Parin et al. 2014:354 [ref. 33547]). •Dates to Gmelin (ex Güldenstädt) 1789 -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2009:84 [ref. 30320]). •Valid as Gymnocephalus acerina (Gmelin 1789) -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2009:84 [ref. 30320] but as Gmelin 1788).
