Syntypes: (4 +) BMNH 1884.7.7.112-115 (4) Key West; USNM 30076 (1), 30137 (1); 30070 (1) and 30120 (1) are missing. Based on Haemulon chrysopteron (non Linnaeus 1766) of Cuvier 1830:240 [ref. 999], Günther 1859:313 [ref. 1961], and Holbrook 1860:121, Pl. 17 (fig. 1) [ref. 2185]. Available according to ICZN Art. 12.1 and 12.2.1 as above based on literature citations. Also appeared as new in Jordan & Swain 1884:308 [ref. 2536] with different specimens. Syntypes based on the literature citations and the listed specimens. •Synonym of Haemulon aurolineatum Cuvier 1830 -- (Courtenay 1961:116 [ref. 21095], Smith-Vaniz et al. 1999:262 [ref. 25013]). •Valid as Haemulon rimator Jordan & Swain 1884 -- (Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:336 [ref. 24550], Parenti 2019:159 [ref. 37021]).
