Appeared first as one of 2 undiagnosed species in the genus Hapalogenys in Richardson 1844:463 [ref. 3736] with reference to Pl. 43, fig. 3 which was not yet published at that time. Holotype at BMNH from Macao apparently lost; neotype designated by Iwatsuki & Russell 2006:31, 36 [ref. 28928] •Valid as Hapalogenys analis Richardson 1845 -- (Iwatsuki et al. 2000:133 [ref. 24256], Johnson in Randall & Lim 2000:619 [ref. 25122], McKay 2001:2968 [ref. 26103], Iwatsuki & Russell 2006:31 [ref. 28928], Gill & Leis 2019:5 [ref. 36999], Kim et al. 2020:133 [ref. 39118], Sonoyama et al. 2020:69 [ref. 37637]). Current status: Valid as Hapalogenys analis Richardson 1845. Lobotidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: China to Korea and Japan. Habitat: marine.
