Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied by Paratilapia bayoni Boulenger 1909, replaced by Haplochromis niloticus Greenwood 1960. Lectotype regarded as established by Greenwood 1960:245 [ref. 11917] where he refers to Genoa Mus. no. 12932 as the holotype. •Objective synonym of Haplochromis niloticus Greenwood 1960 -- (van Oijen et al. 1991:150 [ref. 20956]). Current status: Synonym of Haplochromis niloticus Greenwood 1960. Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Habitat: freshwater.
