Holotype: BPBM 13225. Paratypes: AMS I.18430-001 (1); BMNH 1975.8.13.2 (1); BPBM 13222 (2), 13327 (now 2); CAS 33468 (1); USNM 214675 (1). Current status: Valid as Hemitaurichthys multispinosus Randall 1975. Chaetodontidae: Heniochinae. Distribution: South Pacific: Pitcairn Island. Habitat: marine.

multispinus, Hemitaurichthys Burgess [W. E.] & Randall [J. E.] in Burgess 1978:214, Figs. [Butterflyfishes of the World; ref. 700] Pitcairn Island, Pacific. Holotype: BPBM 13225. Paratypes: BPBM 13222 (2), 13327 (8, now 2). Described earlier by Randall with same holotype as Hemitaurichthys multispinosus Randall 1975. •Objective synonym of Hemitaurichthys multispinosus Randall 1975 -- (Allen 1980:163 [ref. 22764]). Current status: Synonym of Hemitaurichthys multispinosus Randall 1975. Chaetodontidae: Heniochinae. Habitat: marine.
