Appeared first as above on 8 Sept.; then in Ayres 1855:4 [ref. 18923]. Original spelling of the genus by Ayres was Hemitripteras. Authorship of this species was established as Ayres 1854 rather than Girard 1854 in Opinion 1583 in 1990. •Synonym of and junior homonym of Scorpaenichthys marmoratus Girard 1854 -- (Bolin 1944:6 [ref. 6379]). •Valid as Scorpaenichthys marmoratus (Ayres 1854) -- (McAllister 1990:201 [ref. 14674], Mecklenburg 2002:430 [ref. 25968], Nelson et al. 2004:121 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:92 [ref. 37547], Page et al. 2013:124 [ref. 32708], Pietsch & Orr 2015:44 [ref. 34694], Kells et al. 2016:192 [ref. 35888], Burton & Lea 2019:68 [ref. 37205], Love et al. 2021:116 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Scorpaenichthys marmoratus (Ayres 1854). Jordaniidae. Distribution: Northeastern Pacific: southeastern Alaska (U.S.A.) south to Pacific coast of central Baja California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.

Syntypes: USNM 45371 (2). Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Hemitripterus marmoratus Ayres 1854, replaced by Ulca bolini Myers 1934. •Synonym of Hemitripterus bolini (Myers 1934) -- (Parin et al. 2002:S91 [ref. 28300], Mecklenburg 2003:3 [ref. 27294], Parin et al. 2014:281 [ref. 33547]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Hemitripterus bolini (Myers 1934). Agonidae: Hemitripterinae. Distribution: North Pacific: Bering Sea to northern California and to northern Kuril Islands. Habitat: marine.
