Holotype: USNM 78228. Paratypes: (72 typical specimens) CAS-SU 25463 (8); others at USNM. Specimens varying toward H. s. trovus not regarded as types. •Synonym of Hymenocephalus striatissimus Jordan & Gilbert 1904, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Yatou in Okamura et al. 1982:143, 346 [ref. 8256], Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:230 [ref. 18936], Iwamoto & Williams 1999:178 [ref. 23875], Iwamoto 1999:1991 [ref. 24761], Hutchins 2001:24 [ref. 25847]). •Valid as Hymenocephalus aeger Gilbert & Hubbs 1920 -- (Bray et al. 2006:595 [ref. 29065], Schwarzhans 2014:55 [ref. 33586]). Current status: Valid as Hymenocephalus aeger Gilbert & Hubbs 1920. Macrouridae. Distribution: West Pacific and southeastern Indian Ocean off Australia. Habitat: marine.

Holotype: BSKU 14171. Paratypes: BSKU 14172 (1). •Synonym of Hymenocephalus striatissimus Jordan & Gilbert 1904, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:230 [ref. 18936]). •Valid as Hymenocephalus hachijoensis Okamura 1970 -- (Okamura in Masuda et al. 1984:93 [ref. 6441], Sazonov 1994:151 [ref. 22658], Nakabo 2000:419 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:419 [ref. 26001], Schwarzhans 2014:49 [ref. 33586], Nakayama et al. 2015:504? [ref. 33724], Iwamoto & Okamoto 2015:378 [ref. 33958], Nakayama 2020:208 [ref. 37888]). Current status: Valid as Hymenocephalus hachijoensis Okamura 1970. Macrouridae. Distribution: Western North Pacific: Japan and the Emperor Seamounts. Habitat: marine.

Holotype: USNM 72927. Paratypes: USNM 148959-64 (9, 6, 4, 12, 16, 2), 148964 (2), 149033 (11), 149457 (15), 149464-76 (8, 3, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1), 149589 (6). First author is H. M. Smith. •Synonym of Hymenocephalus striatissimus Jordan & Gilbert 1904, but a valid subspecies -- (Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:230 [ref. 18936], Iwamoto 1999:1991 [ref. 24761]). •Valid as Hymenocephalus torvus Smith & Radcliffe 1912 -- (Schwarzhans 2014:61 [ref. 33586]). Current status: Valid as Hymenocephalus torvus Smith & Radcliffe 1912. Macrouridae. Distribution: Philippines. Habitat: marine.
