Holotype (unique): MNHN (not found). Type catalog: Collette et al. 1997:24 [ref. 22813]. Often misidentified as Hyporhamphus limbatus or Hyporhamphus picarti (Collette 1981:29 [ref. 12728]). •Valid as Hyporhamphus xanthopterus (Valenciennes 1847) -- (Parin et al. 1980:41 [ref. 6895], Collette 1982 [ref. 12728], Dor 1984:63 [ref. 29757], Talwar & Jhingran 1991:735 [ref. 20764], Goren & Dor 1994:16 [ref. 25356], Collette 2004:12 [ref. 27583], Ali et al. 2018:315 [ref. 36183], Collette 2022:364 [ref. 39718]). Current status: Valid as Hyporhamphus xanthopterus (Valenciennes 1847). Hemiramphidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: southwest coast of India east to Thailand.
