Cryptopterus puncticeps Kaup 1859. Type by monotypy. See also Cryptopterus Bleeker 1860, perhaps an unjustified emendation of Kryptopterus Bleeker 1857; Cryptopterus Günther 1864 definitely is an unjustified emendation but is later than Cryptopterus Kaup. •Synonym of Ophichthus Thunberg 1789 -- (Kottelat 2013:45 [ref. 32989]). •Synonym of Ophichthus Ahl 1789 -- (Blache et al. 1973:247 [ref. 7185], McCosker 1977:80 [ref. 6836], McCosker et al. 1989:379 [ref. 13288], McCosker 1999:574 [ref. 23699]). Unjustified emendation of Kryptopterus Bleeker 1857. Type designated by Bleeker 1862:395 [ref. 391], 1862:18 [ref. 393] and 1863:116 [ref. 401]. See van Oijen et al. 2009:252 [ref. 30423]. •Synonym of Kryptopterus Bleeker 1857 [sometimes as 1858] -- (Haig 1952:106 [ref. 12607], Roberts 1989:145 [ref. 6439], Ferraris 2007:369 [ref. 29155], Kottelat 2013:233 [ref. 32989]).
