On p. 11 of separate. •An older name for the Hawaiian population of Kyphosus pacificus Sakai & Nakabo 2004 -- (Randall 2005:305 [ref. 28239]). •Valid as Kyphosus sandwicensis (Sauvage 1880) -- (Mundy 2005:410 [ref. 28379], Randall 2007:271 [ref. 30952]). •Synonym of Kyphosus elegans (Peters 1869) -- (Knudsen & Clements 2013:40 [ref. 33031], Sakai & Nakabo 2014:287 [ref. 33211]). Current status: Synonym of Kyphosus elegans (Peters 1869). Kyphosidae. Distribution: Western and central Pacific, antiequatorial: Southern Japan, Ogasawara Islands and Micronesia to Hawaiian Islands; Queensland (Australia), Rapa, Tuamotu Archipelago (in valid) or Hawaiian Islands and eastern Pacific (if valid).
