Appeared first in Pls. 202-204 (in pt. 17, 8 Feb. 1865) [corresponding text (p. 28) appeared in pt. 19]. Also in Bleeker 1866:15 [ref. 417]. O. quadricornis, designated type by Bleeker (p. 28), was not figured. Type designated by Bleeker 1865:27 [ref. 416] (but genus misspelled Laetophrys); also designated by Swain 1882:282 [ref. 5966]. •Valid as Rhineosomus -- (Tyler 1980:239 [ref. 4477], Arai 1983:203 [ref. 14249], Matsuura 2003:1981 [ref. 27119]). •Valid as Lactophrys Swainson 1839 -- (Matsuura 2014:17 [ref. 33576]). Current status: Valid as Lactophrys Swainson 1839. Ostraciidae.

Type designated by Swain 1882:282 [ref. 5966]. •Valid as Rhinesomus Swainson 1839 -- (Tyler 1980:239 [ref. 4477], Arai 1983:203 [ref. 14249], Aboussouan & Leis 1984:452 [ref. 13661], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:510 [ref. 24550], Matsuura 2003:1981 [ref. 27119]). •Synonym of Lactophrys Swainson 1839. Type designated as L. tritropis Snyder = Ostracion stellifer Bloch; type clearly is tritropis (see also Jordan & Hubbs p. 96). •Synonym of Tetrosomus Swainson 1839.
