Equula Cuvier [G.] 1815:462 [Mémoires du Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris (N. S.) v. 1; ref. 1019] Fem. Centrogaster equula of Gmelin 1788 (= Scomber equula Forsskål 1775). Type by absolute tautonymy. Cuvier stated (p. 463), "...je nommerai equula"; it was Cuvier's style in this article to begin generic names with a lower case letter.
