xantusi, Lepidopus Goode [G. B.] & Bean [T. H.] 1896:519, Pl. 58 (fig. 213) [Special Bulletin U. S. National Museum No. 2; ref. 1848] Cape San Lucas, Baja California. Holotype: USNM 10115. Based on specimen from Cape San Lucas identified as Lepidopus caudatus on p. 203 and figured in Pl. 58 (fig. 213). •Valid as Lepidopus xantusi Goode & Bean 1896 -- (Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:266 [ref. 9277]). •Synonym of Lepidopus caudatus (Euphrasen 1788) -- (Rosenblatt & Wilson 1987:343 [ref. 6711], Nakamura & Parin 1993:94 [ref. 21769], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:117 [ref. 24555]). Current status: Synonym of Lepidopus caudatus (Euphrasen 1788). Trichiuridae: Lepidopodinae. Habitat: marine.
