Holotype: whereabouts unknown, probably lost. Type catalog: Chernova 1998:766 [ref. 24687]. •Possibly a senior synonym of Liparis tunicatus Reinhardt 1836 -- (Chernova 1991:31 [ref. 23263], Chernova 1998:766 [ref. 24687], Chernova et al. 2004:25 [ref. 27592]). •Probably valid as Liparis lineatus (Lepechin 1774) -- (Chernova 1999:767 [ref. 24687]). •Questionably a synonym of Liparis liparis (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Able 1990:481 [ref. 20106], Chernova et al. 2004:25 [ref. 27592]). •Synonym of Liparis liparis (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Parin et al. 2014:336 [ref. 33547]). Current status: Synonym of Liparis liparis (Linnaeus 1766). Liparidae. Distribution: European waters (not circumpolar); English Channel to eastern Kola Peninsula (37°50 E), Jan Mayen Island, Iceland, occasionally south to Portugal. Habitat: marine.

minor, Cyclopterus liparis var. Fabricius [O.] 1780:135 [Fauna groenlandica, systematice sistens animalia Groenlandiae occidentalis, etc.; ref. 17464] Western Greenland. No types known. Name appeared as Cyclopterus liparis atera minor and was treated as infrasubspecific and unavailable by authors; however, 'altera altera' means the one and the other and is not part of the name, but refers to the first form, i.e., a variety. Name not used after 1899, therefore priority is reversed in favor of Liparis truncatus Reinhardt 1836. •In the synonymy of Liparis tunicatus Reinhardt 1836 -- (Chernova et al. 2004:63 [ref. 27592]). Infrasubspecific. Current status: Synonym of Liparis tunicatus Reinhardt 1836. Liparidae. Habitat: marine.
