fasciatus, Macrurus Weber [M.] 1913:157 [Die Fische der Siboga-Expedition; ref. 4602] Madura Sea, 7°15'S, 115°15.6'E, Siboga station 12, depth 289 m; Arafura Sea, 5°28.4'S, 132°00.2'E, station 251, depth 204 meters. Syntypes: ZMA 110451-52 (1, 2). Type information: Nijssen et al. 1982:66 [ref. 19236]. Original genus should have been Macrourus. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Macrurus fasciatus Günther 1878. However, in the original description Weber used two names: M. fasciatus (pasted over with vittatus on p. 157) and vittatus on Pl. 1 (fig. 5) and on p. 618; the name fasciatus was used in the index (p. 685, 694). The original on p. 157 at the California Academy of Sciences has strip with vittatus typewritten in the same style as the genus and glued over fasciatus on p. 157. Gilbert & Hubbs 1920:559 [ref. 1638] used M. vittatus without mention of fasciatus. Weber & de Beaufort 1929 [ref. 16063] mentioned both species and state (unfortunately) that vittatus is a misprint; technically they serve as first revisers selecting fasciatus over vittatus. This means that Macrurus fasciatus Weber 1913 is preoccupied and is objectively invalid. •Valid as Ventrifossa fasciata (Weber 1913) -- (Iwamoto 1979:153 [ref. 2311], Paxton et al. 1989:329 [ref. 12442], Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:296 [ref. 18936]). •Synonym of Lucigadus microlepis (Günther 1878) -- (Iwamoto & Merrett 1997:528 [ref. 23710]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Lucigadus microlepis (Günther 1878). Macrouridae. Habitat: marine.

microlepis, Coryphaenoides Günther [A.] 1878:26 [10] [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 5) v. 2 (nos 7/8/9)(art. 2/22/28); ref. 2010] Off Matuka, Fiji Islands, Challenger station 173, depth 215 fathoms. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1887.12.7.104. On p. 10 of separate. See also Günther 1887:142 [ref. 2013]. •Valid as Lucigadus microlepis (Günther 1878) -- (Iwamoto & Merrett 1997:528 [ref. 23710], Iwamoto & Williams 1999:185 [ref. 23875], Iwamoto 1999:1992 [ref. 24761], Merrett & Iwamoto 2000:766 [ref. 25037], Iwamoto & Graham 2001:480 [ref. 25637], Bray et al. 2006:598 [ref. 29065], Fricke et al. 2011:364 [ref. 31242], Iwamoto & Okamoto 2015:372 [ref. 33958]). Current status: Valid as Lucigadus microlepis (Günther 1878). Macrouridae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific. Habitat: marine.

vittatus, Macrurus Weber [M.] 1913:157, 618, Pl. 1 (fig. 5) [Die Fische der Siboga-Expedition; ref. 4602] Original genus should have been Macrourus. See account of Macrurus fasciatus Weber 1913. •In the synonymy of Lucigadus microlepis (Günther 1878) -- (Iwamoto & Merrett 1997:528 [ref. 23710]). •Treated as valid as Lucigadus vittatus (Weber 1913) -- (Iwamoto 1999:1992 [ref. 24761]).
