Described more fully in Murray 1855 [ref. 20728]. •Synonym of Malapterurus electricus (Gmelin 1789) -- (Gosse 1986:102 [ref. 6194]). •Valid as Malapterurus beninensis Murray 1855 -- (Roberts 2000:6 [ref. 24300], Norris 2002:54 [ref. 27470], Ferraris 2007:301 [ref. 29155], Norris 2007:695 [ref. 30031], Skelton 2019:227 [ref. 36564], Fermon et al. 2022:156 [ref. 39448], Walsh et al. 2022:[6] [ref. 39281]). Current status: Valid as Malapterurus beninensis Murray 1855. Malapteruridae. Distribution: Western-central Africa: Ghana south to Angola, including Bioko Island (Equatorial Guinea).
