Current status: Valid as Mataeocephalus acipenserinus (Gilbert & Cramer 1897). Macrouridae. Distribution: Indo-Pacific: eastern Indian Ocean to Hawaiian Islands and Sala-y-Gomez Ridge (southeastern Pacific), south to Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Habitat: marine.

Zoology v. 12 (pt 3); ref. 3634] Saya de Malha Bank, Indian Ocean, depth 300-500 fathoms. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1908.3.23.47. Original genus should have been Macrourus. •Valid as Mataeocephalus microstomus (Regan 1908) -- (Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:245 [ref. 18936], Adam et al. 1998:1 [ref. 23610]). •Synonym of Mataeocephalus acipenserinus (Gilbert & Cramer 1897) -- (Sazonov et al. 2003:284 [ref. 27176]). Current status: Synonym of Mataeocephalus acipenserinus (Gilbert & Cramer 1897). Macrouridae. Habitat: marine.

M.] & Radcliffe [L.] in Radcliffe 1912:125, Pl. 28 (fig. 2) [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 43 (no. 1924); ref. 3578] Between Leyte and Mindanao, 9°12'45"N, 125°20'00"E, Philippines, Albatross station 5492, depth 735 fathoms. Holotype: USNM 72942. Paratypes: USNM 149306-13 (1, 1, 1, 4, 1, 2, 1, 3). First author is H. M. Smith. •Valid as Mataeocephalus nigrescens Smith & Radcliffe 1912 -- (Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:245 [ref. 18936], Iwamoto 1999:1992 [ref. 24761], Iwamoto in Randall & Lim 2000:595 [ref. 25122]). •Synonym of Mataeocephalus acipenserinus (Gilbert & Cramer 1897) -- (Sazonov et al. 2003:284 [ref. 27176]). Current status: Synonym of Mataeocephalus acipenserinus (Gilbert & Cramer 1897). Macrouridae. Habitat: marine.
