Syntypes: USNM 33378 (1), 33509 (1), 34835 (1); not USNM 33553 (1). Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied by Scopelus crassiceps Günther 1878 when both are placed in same genus; replaced by Melamphaes beanii Günther 1887. •Objective synonym of Scopelogadus beanii (Günther 1887) -- (Ebeling & Weed 1963:15 [ref. 4616], Maul 1973:344 [ref. 7171], Paxton et al. 1989:372 [ref. 12442], Maul 1990:618 [ref. 17237] as crassipes, Kotlyar 2004:6 [ref. 27590], Paxton et al. 2006:749 [ref. 28995], Kotlyar 2019:508[642] [ref. 37920]). 2°Homonym.
