Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Mola Koelreuter 1766 and Mola Cuvier 1798, both in fishes; replaced by Amblypharyngodon Bleeker 1860. •In the synonymy of Amblypharyngodon Bleeker 1860 -- (Kottelat 2013:72 [ref. 32989]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Amblypharyngodon Bleeker 1860. Danionidae: Rasborinae.

Mola Blyth [E.] 1860:164 [Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal v. 29 (no. 2); ref. 477] Fem. Mola buchanani Blyth 1860 (= Cyprinus mola Hamilton 1822). Type by original designation (also by absolute tautonymy of senior objective synonym--mola renamed buchanani by Blyth). Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Mola Heckel 1843; also preoccupied by Mola Koelreuter 1766. Mola Heckel replaced by Amblypharyngodon Bleeker 1869. Clearly intended as a new genus. •Synonym of Amblypharyngodon Bleeker 1860 -- (Kottelat 2013:73 [ref. 32989]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Amblypharyngodon Bleeker 1860. Molacanthus Swainson [W.] 1839:195, 329 [The natural history and classification v. 2; ref. 4303] Masc. Molacanthus pallasii Swainson 1839 (= Diodon mola Pallas 1770). Type by monotypy. Swainson included one species as "M. Pallasii Sw. Pall. Spec. zool. pl. 4." Swainson's pallasii is an unneeded substitute for D. mola Pallas. •Synonym of Mola Koelreuter 1766 -- (Fraser-Brunner 1943:8 [ref. 1495], Fraser-Brunner 1951:109 [ref. 19546], Parenti 2003:2 [ref. 27311]). Orthragoriscus Bloch [M. E.] & Schneider [J. G.] 1801:510 [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Masc. Tetraodon mola Linnaeus 1758. Type by subsequent designation. According to Parenti 2003:2 [ref. 27311], Orthragoriscus Bloch & Schneider 1801 was spelled Orthragoriascus by early authors, who regarded original as misprinted, but spelled Orthragoriscus on pp. lvii, 510, plate 97 and on p. 583. The type-species of Orthragus Rafinesque 1810 was first designated by Bory de Saint-Vincent, v. 12, 1827:503 [ref. 3853] (see Whitley 1935:137 [ref. 6396]); although Bory de Saint Vincent spelled the genus as Ostragus, it is clear he was referring to Rafinesque's genus. Also appeared as new (credited to Gmelin but sensu Plinius) in Billberg 1833:53 [ref. 34146]; see Kullander 2016:110 [ref. 34147]. •Objective synonym of Mola Koelreuter 1766 -- (Fraser-Brunner 1943:8 [ref. 1495], Tortonese 1973:649 [ref. 7192], Parenti 2003:2 [ref. 27311]).
