Holotype: NMNZ P.057679. Paratypes: AIM, NMNZ, NMV, SAMA. Plus additional non-type material. •Valid as Mola tecta Nyegaard, Sawai, Gemmell, Gillum, Loneragan, Yamanoue & Stewart 2017 -- (Sawai et al. 2017:[5] [ref. 35699], Love et al. 2021:227 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Mola tecta Nyegaard, Sawai, Gemmell, Gillum, Loneragan, Yamanoue & Stewart 2017. Molidae. Distribution: Southern Hemisphere from Chile to Australia to South Africa, and one possible record from the North Sea; at least as far north as Kodiak Island (Alaska, U.S.A.) to Coal Oil Point, Santa Barbara County (southern California, U.S.A.). Habitat: marine.
