Monocanthus (Cantherines) nasutus Swainson 1839 (= Balistes sandwichiensis Quoy & Gaimard 1824). Type by monotypy. Spelled Cantherhines on pp. 194 and 437, Cantherines on p. 327; first reviser not located. Cantherhinus Agassiz 1846:64 [ref. 64] is an unjustified emendation. Swainson's nasutus is an unneeded substitute for sandwichiensis. Cantherines and Cantherhine are both found in current literature.
