Type catalog: Bertin 1940:270 [ref. 293]. •Valid as Mormyrus felixi Pellegrin 1939 -- (Gosse 1984:100 [ref. 6169]). •Synonym of Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847 -- (Lévêque & Bigorne 1985:332 [ref. 5947]). Current status: Synonym of Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847. Mormyridae. Distribution: Africa. Habitat: freshwater.

Holotype (unique): BMNH 1864.7.22.4. •Synonym of Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847, but a valid subspecies -- (Gosse 1984:101 [ref. 6169], Bigorne in Lévêque et al. 1990:131 [ref. 21589]). Current status: Synonym of Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847. Mormyridae. Habitat: freshwater.

hasselquist, Mormyrus Lacepède [B. G. E.] 1803:622 [Histoire naturelle des poissons (Lacepède) v. 5; ref. 4930] Nile River, Egypt. Based on the style in Lacepède p. 622 this name is Latinized and predates Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847 as used in the current literature; current usage would suggest continuing to retain authorship as Valenciennes 1847. Both names were based on Geoffroy St. Hilaire and caschive of Hasselquist 1757:398 [ref. 30181], the latter a rejected work (ICZN Opinion 57), but hasselquistii also involved specimens and can stand on its own. •Synonym of Mormyrus caschive Linnaeus 1758. Current status: Synonym of Mormyrus caschive Linnaeus 1758. Mormyridae. Habitat: freshwater.

Lectotype selected by Eschmeyer 1998:710 [ref. 23416]. •Valid as Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847 -- (Gosse 1984:100 [ref. 6169] with holotype and paratypes, Lévêque et al. 1989:115 [ref. 26480] dated 1846, Bigorne in Lévêque et al. 1990:131 [ref. 21589], Dankwa et al. 1999:14 [ref. 28023], Kramer 2013:6 [ref. 32485], Neumann et al. 2016:303 [ref. 35036], Moritz et al. 2019:142 [ref. 36792]). Current status: Valid as Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847. Mormyridae. Distribution: Africa. Habitat: freshwater.
