Lepibema (subgenus of Perca) Rafinesque [C. S.] 1820:371 [Western Review and Miscellaneous Magazine: a monthly publ., devoted to literature and science, Lexington, KY v. 1 (no. 6); ref. 7308] Neut. Morone Mitchill [S. L.] 1814:18 [Report, in part, of Samuel L. Mitchill; ref. 3030] Fem. Morone rufa Mitchill 1814. Type by subsequent designation. Gill 1860:111 [ref. 1793] restricted the genus but did not technically designate a type; Gill 1861:50 [ref. 1768] designated the type as Morone americana Gill, but that was not an originally-included species; first technical designation apparently by Bleeker 1876:263 [ref. 447] as "Morone americana Gill = Morone rufa Mitchill." Bleeker 1876:263 also serves as first reviser when Morone and Roccus are synonymized, selecting Morone. •Valid as Morone Mitchill 1814 -- (Jenkins & Burkhead 1994:677 [ref. 21581], Heemstra 2003:1294 [ref. 27043], Parin 2003:S2 [ref. 28536], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:201 [ref. 28183], Scharpf 2008:12 [ref. 30399], Minckley & Marsh 2009:295 [ref. 31114], Parin et al. 2014:351 [ref. 33547], Pietsch & Orr 2015:55 [ref. 34694]). Current status: Valid as Morone Mitchill 1814. Moronidae.

Roccus Mitchill [S. L.] 1814:24 [Report, in part, of Samuel L. Mitchill; ref. 3030] Masc. Roccus striatus Mitchill 1814. Type by subsequent designation. Gill 1860:112 [ref. 1793] redefined the genus but did not fix the type; Gill 1898:vii [ref. 7956] stated, "Roccus was revived as a generic name [by Gill, 1860] but restricted to the typical species and another closely related one unknown to Mitchill," but that does not technically fix the type either. Type designation may date to Jordan 1917:86 [ref. 2407]. •Synonym of Morone Mitchill 1814 when regarded as congeneric -- (see Whitehead & Wheeler 1966:76 [ref. 14481]). •Synonym of Morone Mitchill 1814 -- (Parin 2003:S2 [ref. 28536], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:201 [ref. 28183], Parin et al. 2014:351 [ref. 33547]). Current status: Synonym of Morone Mitchill 1814. Moronidae.
