Paranotropis (subgenus of Notropis) Fowler [H. W.] 1904:245 [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 56; ref. 1366] Masc. Photogenis leuciodus Cope 1868. Type by original designation. Fowler states that the type is P. leuciodus and also states that Episema Jordan, based on scabriceps, is preoccupied; contrary to Jordan (1920:507 [ref. 4905]), we do not feel Fowler proposed this as a replacement for Episema. •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818 -- (Gilbert 1998:18 [ref. 23395]). •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818, subgenus Hydrophlox Jordan 1878 -- (Gilbert 1978:16 [ref. 7042]). •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818, subgenus Paranotropis Fowler 1904 -- (Stout et al. 2022:9 [ref. 39738]). •Valid as Paranotropis Fowler 1904 -- (Stout et al. 2022:7 [ref. 39738]). Current status: Valid as Paranotropis Fowler 1904. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae.

Photogenis Cope [E. D.] 1867:378 [Transactions of the American Philosophical Society (New Series) v. 13 (pt 3) (art. 13); ref. 910] Squalius photogenis Cope 1865. Type by absolute tautonymy. Also appeared in Cope 1868:163 [ref. 7316]; in 1868 paper Cope cites original as 1866:378 which is our Cope 1867 [ref. 910]. Reference 910 was read in 1866 and separates apparently distributed in 1867, and distribution of bound part in 1869. Gilbert 1998:18 [ref. 23395] errors in not treating the type as Squalius photogenis by absolute tautonymy [instead he says type is Photogenis spilopterus Cope 1867]; photogenis is an included species renamed on p. 379 as Photogenis leucops [to avoid Strickland tautonymy; see Art. 68.4]. •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818 -- (Gilbert 1978:15 [ref. 7042]). •Synonym of Cyprinella Girard 1857 -- (Mayden 1989:45 [ref. 12555], Gilbert 1998:18 [ref. 23395]). •With type as above, genus is a synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818. Current status: Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae.

Plargyrus Rafinesque [C. S.] 1820:240 [Western Review and Miscellaneous Magazine: a monthly publ., devoted to literature and science, Lexington, KY v. 2 (no. 4); ref. 7310] Masc. Rutilus plargyrus Rafinesque 1820. Type by absolute tautonymy; also verified by ICZN in Opinion 33. Also appeared in Rafinesque 1820:50 (Dec.) [ref. 3592]. •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818 -- (Gilbert 1978:15 [ref. 7042]). •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818, subgenus Luxilus Rafinesque 1820 -- (Gilbert 1964:111 [ref. 12397] and authors). •Synonym of Luxilus when Luxilus is treated as valid -- (e.g., as by Mayden 1989 [ref. 12555], Gilbert 1998:19 [ref. 23395]). Current status: Synonym of Luxilus Rafinesque 1820. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae.

Pteronotropis (subgenus of Erogala) Fowler [H. W.] 1935:15 [Contributions from the Charleston Museum v. 7; ref. 1422] Masc. Alburnus formosus Putnam 1863. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Type species preoccupied in Notropis by Moniana formosa Girard 1856; same as Leuciscus hypselopterus Günther 1868. •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818, but a valid subgenus Pteronotropis as described -- (Gilbert 1978:16 [ref. 7042], Suttkus & Mettee 2001:6 [ref. 25253]). •Valid as Pteronotropis Fowler 1935 -- (Mayden 1989:30 [ref. 12555], Gilbert 1998:19 [ref. 23395], Simons et al. 2000:1068 [ref. 25101], Mayden et al. 2007:81 [ref. 36566], Mayden & Allen 2015:[1] [ref. 34137], Stout et al. 2022:9 [ref. 39738]). Current status: Valid as Pteronotropis Fowler 1935. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae.

Notropis rasconis Jordan & Snyder 1899. Type by original designation. •Valid as Tampichthys Schönhuth, Doadrio, Dominguez-Dominguez, Hillis & Mayden 2008 -- (Scharpf 2008:3 [ref. 30399]). Current status: Valid as Tampichthys Schönhuth, Doadrio, Dominguez-Dominguez, Hillis & Mayden 2008. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae.
