kanawha, Notropis Jordan [D. S.] & Jenkins [O. P.] in Jordan 1889:354, Pl. 44 (fig. 5) [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 11 (no. 723); ref. 10478] Reed Creek, tributary of Kanawha River, near Wytheville, Wythe County, Virginia, U.S.A. Lectotype: USNM 39928. Paralectotypes: CAS-SU 624 (3), USNM 179894 [ex 39928] (3). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:35 [ref. 12291], Gilbert 1998:98-99 [ref. 23395]. Second author is O. P. Jenkins. Lectotype established (as figured specimen) in caption to Pl. 46, p. 3241 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446]; a lectotype was also selected by Bailey & Gilbert 1960:356 [ref. 12396] and that specimen is now in USNM 39928. •Hybrid between Notropis rubellus (Agassiz 1850) and N. volucellus (Cope 1865) -- (Bailey & Gilbert 1960 [ref. 12396], Gilbert 1978:22, 52 [ref. 7042], Gilbert 1998:99 [ref. 23395]). Hybrid. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Habitat: freshwater.
